2016 proved to be a very exciting year for me culminating in a wonderful Christmas lunch with the Academy of Floral Art, where we got to create some Christmas designs together and enjoy a lovely meal all the while being filmed by the amazingly talented duo Baxter & Ted.
Teaching floristry is one of the highlights of my working life and here you will meet the amazing people I work with, they are incredibly supportive and inspirational and my floral life is a constant and exciting journey of floral discovery made possible by them. If you would like to learn more about the career of floristry then do get in touch with the Academy of Floral Art to find out more.
Teaching at the Academy focuses on enhancing the individual talents of each student. Information is given on how to approach design using the Principles and Elements of design, together with the observations of Gregor Lersch’ Oder Categories and the 40 known techniques, exploring different styles and methods from around the world. The Academy of Floral Art is the only British Floristry School that teaches different known design methods giving each student all of the tools to becoming an excellent designer in their own right. It is true I am biased, because I have been blessed with the most amazing opportunities that have come my way since training with them.
Christmas time is a wonderfully creative opportunity with key features including the front door wreath, the tree, table decorations and gifts. There is no need to re-invent the wheel, just take each of these iconic designs and play with them, incorporating your colour themes and textures, adding fun accessories from baubles and ribbons to children’s toys, using seasonal flowers and foliages you can create something really individual and relevant to you and your clients. Most importantly enjoy the process of planning and creating, this is the magic festive ingredient and adds it’s own kind of sparkle. I hope that if you have a burning desire to learn more about floristry then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Next year I have so many exciting plans, much more growing, more workshops and teaching at the Academy of Floral Art and maybe studying something new.
I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful, healthy and successful New Year.
